My daughter, India, & I are going to Cambodia in south east Asia in July to volunteer in a rural community school in Bakod village in the Takeo Province.

The local people live under the poverty line; with the support of international volunteers children & young people can go to school to learn English & other skills which they need to seek employment or further education.

We will be helping to teach English to children between the age of 3-18, as well as organising activities such as sports & arts & crafts, helping with on site repairs & construction & looking after the grounds & vegetable garden. We also hope to visit the local orphanage.

We fly to Phnom Penh, arriving on the evening of the 4th July so we will be staying in a hostel there on the first night before travelling to the project around 80km away. We will be in Cambodia for 29 days, living in a shared dormitory on site during the week and hopefully seeing some of the sights of the country at weekends such as visiting the amazing temples at Angkor Watt & hopefully managing a weekend in neighbouring Vietnam!

We have paid for our flights, the volunteering registration fee & project fees which covers the cost of our accomodation at the project. We will pay around £8 a day for meals at the project, provided by the resident cook. In addition to this we need to pay for transfer costs, visas & given the rural location & proximity to the rice fields we also need vaccinations for Japanese encephalitis, at a whopping £340!

We are hoping to raise funds to help with some of these additional costs & also to purchase resources for the school /contribute towards purchasing tools etc out there.

We are very privileged to be able to enrich our lives by sharing time with these beautiful people, learning about their culture & experiencing life away from the Western rat race! An amazing adventure lies ahead. Thankyou for any support you are able to offer.
