Story
Rather than just supporting one charity Winchester RFC President Rob Sanderson has opted to support a number of different good causes for his charity lunch on Saturday 28th September prior to the 1st XV fixture against Chobham RFC.
However its much better to create a challenge and so commencing on Wednesday 25th September Rob will cycle the 300 miles visiting all of the other 11 clubs in the South Central Regional League. Currently Rob will be joined by 7 others; Rolf Stratford (Previous WRFC President) Tim Pike. (past WRFC & now Chobham member) Sue Dorrington ( Great Britain and England International & World Rugby Hall of Fame) Terry Burwell ( Hampshire RFU Representative) and friends David Hill, David Lewis & Jack Simpson who have been fabulous supporters of Rob’s previous cycle fundraisers for the MND Association.
Vehicle support driver is Paul Beckett, Rob’s WRFC team mate from 1975 and past Chairman of the club.
The route will take them to Tottonians, Bournemouth, Wimborne, North Dorset, Andover, Newbury, Chobham, Farnham, Guildford, Petersfield, Chichester and back to Winchester in time for the lunch on Saturday.
The good causes being supported have been selected by WRFC’s key community sponsor partners and are: Young Lives vs Cancer, Trinity Winchester, The Rosemary Foundation, HIOWAA, Winchester Beacon, Winchester GoLD, together with Robs ongoing support for the Motor Neurone Disease Association (MNDA) under the CycleForKate banner.
The team hope to raise £1k for each charity.
