Story
Wellow School Association would like to buy Wellow School it's own defibrillator at a cost of £500.
At Wellow School, we obviously hope never to have to deal with this situation. However, if we do have to, we want to be able to give the unfortunate victim the best chance to survive. This means buying an Automated External Defibrillator, or AED to be permanently available on the school site.
Sudden Cardiacc Arrest - SCA - can happen at any age, including the young. It occurs in people who often appear healthy and have no known heart disease or other risk factors for SCA. It happens to children. It could happen to your child or grandchild.
With the combined use of chest compressions and prompt use of a defibrillator together with a rapid ambulance response, survival rates increase dramatically up to an impressive 50-60%. Every second counts.
Sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) is a condition in which the heart suddenly and unexpectedly stops beating. If this happens, blood stops flowing to the brain and other vital organs. The person loses consciousness and collapses. SCA usually causes death if it is not treated within minutes. The most effective treatment for this is chest compressions (CPR) combined with the administration of a defibrillator (AED).
