Story
Our Whitfield Community in the High Peak is seeking funds to revive our traditional well dressing and hold a celebration event. The last time the well was dressed was back in the 1990s. Many people remember this and earlier well dressings with fondness. So we feel it important to celebrate our local heritage and the ancient tradition of well dressing. The dressing of wells pre-dates Christianity and is unique to the ancient cultures of the British Isles. We feel passionate to keep these traditions alive to share with future generations.
The well dressing celebration event is planned for September 14th 2024 and will include music, games and stalls. We will also have interactive mini dressing board making facilitated by Glossop Arts Project.
Funds raised will help towards costs for dressing materials, flowers and clay, and venue hire for preparations.
We really appreciate your donation support no matter how small or large!
We hope to have a fantastic event that can be enjoyed by all the community and hope you are able to join us too
Many thanks

And a very interesting reference to Whitfield with photographs in an old "Morris dancer" journal.
