Story
This appeal is a follow on from our success last year and the picture on at the top of the page was taken on the day. There's a link to last years appeal page below.
Christmas is a time of celebration for most however, if you're homeless or have no family or friends, it can be very difficult. Christmas can be a time of severe depression for these people and suicide rates increase quite significantly over the festive period.
I want to provide a decent hot meal and someone to talk to for anyone that needs it.
I was asked once: "why do you care about this?" This question shouldn't even need to be asked. As a fellow human being I care that others are suffering without support.
But for the record: I have personally been homeless, sleeping on the streets in the snow and the temperature -4oC. It's a most unpleasant experience.
I have experienced hostels for the homeless and have been very lucky to have come out the other side, so to speak, and go on to live a relatively decent life for the 10 years since then.
On Christmas Day 2017, we will provide a hot meal and drinks for as many people as require it at The Salvation Army building in Parkin Avenue, Selby.
Pictures and videos of the day will be posted on Social Media and everyone that donates will be contacted to be shown them.
Thank you for taking the time to read this and thanks in advance for your donations.

8 years agoWe still have the promise of 25% on top of everything we raise, from a local Businessman so if you're able to donate, please still do. Every penny will be made good use of for Christmas 2016 and any left over will be used for the community and/or given to The Salvation Army for their amazing work. Thanks to you all.

8 years agoWell I never!! We've exceeded the target with 19 days left to go! I'm truly humbled by the generosity of people this year and would like to say a big Thank You on behalf of everyone that will benefit from your donations. Christmas Day will be a success now, as it was last year and those attending will get a lovely goody bag to take home. That will be some of the guests only presents this year so thanks to you it will be something decent. A wonderful Christmas and prosperous 2017 to you all. xx

Amazing. Thanks for all your support so far and please continue to share the page, even if you're unable to donate yourself. Many thanks and Merry Christmas to you all.

Having experienced homelessness and loneliness at Christmas, I know the devastating impact it can have. We're trying to reduce that impact for as many people as we can.
