Story

Yewstock School are raising money to allow all of our students to take part in an amazing Adventure Week.

For many students, this will be a once in a lifetime opportunity. Staff will be able to give countless benefits of this experience.

Students will stay with friends, away from parents (some for the first time) and will be able to experience independence. Students, with support from staff where necessary will, develop personal care, independence and skills for life whilst participating in all aspects of the trip. For example, staff will support students, when necessary, to learn to brush their teeth before bed, to prepare their own belongings for the day and to dress into a wetsuit and navigate waters using a kayak.

Students will be away from the structure, routine and familiarity of the school environment and will develop new and existing skills throughout all activities and aspects of the trip, from tasks led by school staff and adventurous activities led by Weymouth and Portland Adventure (a very skilled and professional organisation, who have high levels of support for students with any additional need), to social time in a new environment with friends. All experiences and activities are completely inclusive for all students.

Students will treasure the memories forever, they will develop lifelong skills, benefitting them in order to become more independent therefore improving life chances. Students will develop solid relationships with peers and staff and will improve confidence and self-esteem (improvements in these areas really stand out for our students). As seen in the last two years, this is a once in a lifetime experience for many of our students and they all grew over the week into happier more confident individuals with better chances of continued growth, success and contributing positively to society.
