Next February myself and 15 other seventeen and eighteen years olds from my college are going to be travelling to the area of Bo in Sierra Leone in West Africa, to support lots of the communities in the area by providing much needed, essential resources, such as clothing and stationary items. As part of the 'Catch the dream project' we will be helping to educate the children in the area by running lessons in various subjects to help the children to learn and go on to full fill there full potential in life. The school where we work has gone under a multitude of problems over the last few years, most notably having to be closed due to the Ebola epidemic in the area. This horrific outbreak of Ebola not only segregated the communities in which we work and killed many families which the project has worked with over the last seven years, but it stopped the children's education in the area, and without education then it is neigh on impossible for these kids to escape the poverty in which they have been born into. The wonderful pupils with which we work have a great thirst to learn, this was shown when the students with the help of the devoted teaching staff in the area, stayed in the school for 18 hours a day in classes of up to 100 to finish their course content before the national exam deadlines which were not changed despite the Ebola crisis. The project also involves the distribution of essential resources such as clothing in the communities, the clothing donated is all collected through programs in our local community area, this year we managed to airlift 15 large containers into Sierra Leone, amounting to many tonnes of clothing and shoes. It will be the first time in a few years since the project has managed to travel to Sierra Leone and i am extremely excited to help out to improve the lives of the people in the wonderful communities over there, and to show them that despite their hardships and Ebola, that we have not forgotten them.
