Story

Ken was the legendary local shopkeeper from Stantonbury, He ran the local shop for over 30 years but he was so much more to so many people than this title reveals. He was the heart and soul of our community as we were growing up, he was our mentor and our friend. He had such an impact on the lives of the tens of thousands of campus students and local residents that passed through his door that I don't believe that words are enough to explain. To know him was to love him, he never had a bad word to say about anybody and was always a warm and welcoming soul. The old shops on the Stantonbury Campus have gone now to make way for an Aldi Supermarket but his spirit lives on in the hearts and minds of the locals and of the ex Campus students who's lives he touched. You simply can't think about the old Stantonbury shops without seeing his face or hearing his oh so distinctive voice in your head. As teenagers he looked out for all of us as a mentor, he kept us out of trouble, gave us some wonderful advice and always made us smile. When we made the transition into adulthood he became our friend and when we started having children of our own he started to look out for them in the same way he had cared for all of us. His loss has saddened so many of us so deeply that I can't begin to imagine how much of a loss this must be for his own family. So, I think that as a small token gesture, it would be a Beautiful message to his family if we etched this wonderful mans memory into the heart of the community that he lived and served for so many years. I propose a commemorative bench for Ken to be placed on the green area by the preserved wall next to the new Aldi Store as the two are synonymous with each other, the local parish council are going to help with permissions and planning but the bench must be funded by the locals who's lives he touched. Please give whatever you can for this wonderful cause so we can preserve this beautiful mans memory into our communities heart. Thank you ❤
