Weʼve raised £155 to My 4 week elective placement in Sri Lanka

Funded on Monday, 22nd July 2019

    What is crowdfunding?

Crowdfunding is a new type of fundraising where you can raise funds for your own personal cause, even if you're not a registered nonprofit.

The page owner is responsible for the distribution of funds raised.

    Story

This coming weekend, during 29th - 31st March, I will be swimming 15K/Triple 5K (600 lengths!) in Swimathon 2019 in order to raise money for my elective midwifery placement. This June, in just a few months, I’ll be travelling to Sri Lanka and spending 4 weeks within a hospital in Anuradhapura. Very few women will have access to pain relief and resources will be significantly less than what we are used to here, in the UK NHS. I’m incredibly excited for this huge learning opportunity - Sri Lanka has some of the best maternity care within Asia, despite their lack of resources. I am keen to donate either some money or maternity supplies at the end of my stay, when it is obvious what may or may not be helpful to them. I’m also looking forward to learning about the different cultures of Sri Lanka and expanding my cultural competencies, using them within my midwifery training and career, once I have qualified as a fully fledged midwife, in September 2019 :)

Any donation/sponsorship, no matter how small, will be massively appreciated!

Thank you everyone so much for your support! Just a quick update - unfortunately due to the bombing attacks in Sri Lanka, I will no longer be able to undertake my elective there. However, I have managed to transfer my elective to Cambodia - a country which has a similar lack of resources and only 5% of women giving birth manage to get access to pain relief. All the money you donated will still be going to a brilliant cause, just in a slightly different part of the world xxx
