Story
Jade came to the north east region of German Shepherd Dog Rescue early in January after her owner died. She was badly in need of some TLC as her coat was a real mess and she stank to high heaven. She had several baths and some brushing before a trip to the vets to look at her very swollen front right leg. We were told that Jade had a terrible infection of pseudomonas in her leg and needed antibiotics. The infection had destroyed the bone and caused osteomyelitis. In addition there was a suspicion the bony destruction could be due to a tumour. Treatment began and she went into foster with me.
After a good couple of months of treatment Jade seemed much better. She was walking without limping and enjoying life. Jade went back to the vets and they were pleased with hiw she‘d done. Jade went up on site for adoption. A family were interested in having her but only if she had been spayed. We didn‘t want to miss the chance of a good home for her so made a decision to have Jade sedated to check for spay scar, re x-ray her foot and treat her ears (she hates you going near them).
Jade went in for her investigations on Friday 13th April. An hour after I left her the vets rang with the devastating news that she had mammary tumours and the bone in the toe had not healed. The suspicion of cancer remained. The bill eatimate started at £700 and by late that morning was £1,200. Jade underwent mammary stripping, amputation of toe, spaying and speciaised ear treatment for a bad infection on both sides. She was in theatre all day. Jade bled a lot post-op and had to stay in. It was a long few days for us. Happily she came home the following teatime.
Jade seemed to be doing well but I discovered her massive chest wound had broken down a few days ago. She went back to the vets and it was decided to takenher back to theatre this morning. Jade underwent debridement and washout of the wound and total resuturing. She’s home now. The bill is now in excess of £2,500.
Jade is such a special girl. She‘s so loving and funny. She loves my kids and they love her. I adore her. Sadly my boy Dax hates her so we won’t be adopting her. There is a better home out there for her I’m sure. She really deserves a great life. It’s not been fab so far. Today we got the histology results from her mammary gland tumours. One was benign, the other two were cancerous. Margins were clear so hopefully it’s caught for now. This wonderful girl, that I call my Big Old Unit, has cheated death by chance. She desrrves every chance of a happy life. Please donate if you can. Her treatment is ongoing for now, and we haven’t yet had her toe histology back. She needs a chance to enjoy her life. She’s only 5. I’m sat with tears rolling down my face as I write this. Please help our girl. Thank you. Xx
