Story
My son Peter had a promising future as a basketball player, he has been playing basketball since he was just 5 years old and his dream has always been to make it to the USA as a professional player. In 2015 when he was just 16, he made the decision to leave his friends in Spain to come over to the UK (he is British/Spanish ) to study at a basketball academy and to then try for a scholarship to a US college. However just before he was due to travel he suffered a serious knee injury, tearing his ACL (knee ligaments). He underwent surgery in Spain and travelled as planned to the UK. After months of physio he still felt as if something wasn't right with his knee and after an MRI it was discovered that his ACL had torn again and he had also suffered both meniscus and bone damage to his knee. He had two more operations but after months of pain and suffering his surgeon gave him the devastating news that he would never be able to play basketball or any other contact sport again. His dream of playing as a professional was shattered.
He never once complained about his situation and battled on with the pain and disappointment.
In August 2017 he decided that he still wanted to play, so he had a go at Wheelchair Basketball, he fell in love with the sport and to just see him smile again was the best thing any mum could wish for.
He has just completed his first season and is even more enthusiastic than when he started. He has now has an official GBWB classification and a new dream, to continue to improve and to try out for Team GB and further down the line the Paralympics.
To help him succeed he needs a specialist Sports Wheelchair adapted for his height, these chairs are very expensive and we can not afford one on our own so we are asking for your help to make Peter's dream come a little closer. Your donations will help to achieve this.
I am so proud of my son, he is only 19 now and has been through so much in his life already but has always stayed so strong and positive.
