Story

Hi All,

On April 6, I’ll be running the Brighton Marathon. I’m running to raise money for an incredible young man, Senna Calvin, and his amazing family, Jo & Ez Calvin, who have been through an unimaginably tough journey together. Through everything, they have faced each challenge with strength, resilience, and unwavering love.

Senna was born with hearing loss in both ears, which later turned out to save his life. At just 8 weeks old, during a routine hearing appointment, doctors detected a heart murmur. Two days later, he underwent emergency heart surgery in London for an undiagnosed heart condition—by then, he was in severe heart failure.

The surgery saved his life, but during the operation, Senna suffered a spinal cord injury, leaving him paralysed from the waist down. He has since faced numerous challenges, including a dislocated hip and ongoing issues with his knees and feet.

Despite it all, Senna continues to defy expectations. Some movement has returned in the front of his legs, and as he grows, there’s hope he will regain even more mobility. With support from Stoke Mandeville Spinal Injury Centre, he now has his own mini wheelchair and a standing wheeled frame, giving him greater independence.

Senna’s courage, determination, and smile are truly inspiring. I’m running this marathon to support him and his family—every step I take is for them.

Any donation, no matter how small, will make a real difference in helping Senna get the care, equipment, and opportunities he deserves.

If you can, please consider contributing. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. ❤️

Thank you very much,

Joe
