Story
On Sunday 17th March I'm running the Fleet Half Marathon and hoping to raise some money to pay towards vital intense physio sessions for this absolute little legend, Ben! See his facebook page below
Due to complications during pregnancy Ben was born with cerebral palsy. The condition causes tightness and spasticity in both of his arms and legs so walking unaided (something all of us take for granted) isn't something Ben can do. In 2014 Ben was flown to St Louis in the USA for a life changing operation, SDR (Selective Dorsal Rhizotomy). This operation removes the spasticity in his legs, therefore removing all the pain & enabling Ben to use his "normal" muscles.
I am raising money to help contribute towards his essential post op therapy, which is hugely expensive. Since his operation, and with his ongoing physio sessions, Ben has rocketed with improvement. His strength has improved and he is more stable and aware. His sitting has become more stable, hands more open, finger feeding better and drinking through a straw and from a cup, something he couldn't do pre op. He can stand and walk so much stronger, although still with assistance. His biggest improvement is communication. Pre op Ben could say 4 words in a row. Now he is able to have conversations, and others are understanding him better all the time!
Back in 2012 myself, and a few crazy family members, did a skydive to raise money for Ben's operation in America. Just this half term Ben has been hitting the treadmill, and so have I. A year ago I could barely run for 90 seconds and on Sunday 17th March I will be running the Fleet Half Marathon for Ben. 13 miles!!! I'd be so grateful if you would sponsor me and help pay for some sessions for this absolute little super hero, Ben!!
Thank you
