Story

We are a group of 15 young people who wish to make a positive change in our community.

3.6 million older people in the UK live alone, of whom over 2 million are aged 75+. As a group we feel that this number is far too high so we are taking a small step in tackling this issue. We are working with Abbeyfield nursing home in Skipton, North Yorkshire to help renovate their garden. This will include building birdhouses, painting a mural and planting flowers. We are also planning an activity day to offer the residents a chance play games and socialise with us. We will also be serving afternoon tea along with homemade cakes and sandwiches.

We are also passionate about the environment and are horrified by the state of the local area. It is because of this that we will be litter picking along the Leeds, Liverpool canal focusing on the craven area. We hope that this will benefit locals and tourists alike and increase the amount of plant and animal species in this area.

Another issue that is close to our hearts is the spread of the invasive species, Himalayan balsam. This plant is stealing nutrients, light and space from vital plants in our food chain and ultimately leading to their death. This is why we will be reducing the population to allow other plants the chance to flourish.

We really appreciate all donations to the cause as it is something we feel passionate about. Thank you!
