Story

Thank you for your support! In July 2019, myself and 5 other civil engineering students from Newcastle University will be travelling to Tanzania on a 5 week programme with the charity Raleigh International, to participate in an organised expedition.

As part of our masters year of our degree, we will be participating in the Global Engineering module. This consists of a design and build challenge, which will be the project we work on with Raleigh in Tanzania, which will directly benefit the lives of those we help.

In Tanzania, 65% of the population live below the poverty line with 33% living in extreme poverty. The rural communities lack access to education, clean water and sanitation meaning only 42% of young Tanzanians complete secondary school. Therefore the work we will be doing will be life changing for local residents.

Raleigh International is a sustainable development charity that challenges and inspires volunteers from around the world to work with communities living in poverty. They work in remote, rural areas to improve access to safe water and sanitation, build community resilience, to sustainably manage natural resources and to protect vulnerable environments.

Before I leave, I need to raise around £2500 to support Raleigh’s work and for me to personally carry out the expedition. The donations will directly contribute to my part in programme including all the specialist equipment required to help improve the sanitation facilities within the community we will travel to. As well as all the costs of flights, accommodation and insurance etc. The money is to be individually raised and passed onto the university who will then pass the funds over to Raleigh.

Any donations made will help me to contribute to Raleigh's work, and to continue to create lasting change and to transform lives in some of the world’s poorest communities.

Thank you xox
