Story

In May this year, I am going to Kyparissia, Greece for 8 weeks to volunteer with ARCHELON, the Sea Turtle Protection Society of Greece.

ARCHELON aim to protect and conserve sea turtles and their habitats through different methods. With the help of volunteers, they collect data to contribute towards finding solutions to the problems which are putting sea turtles in danger. These issues include tourist developments, plastic in the sea and entanglements in fishing gear, to name a few.

Sea turtles and their habitats are protected by national, EU and international legislation, yet, every year so many are killed or harmed by human actions. This is still a huge issue ,which is why I have decided to volunteer with ARCHELON.

During my time in Kyparissia my daily duties will include- patrolling the beaches, recording loggerhead reproduction activity, measuring and tagging nesting females, protecting the nests and increasing public awareness on the importance of turtle conservation.

To fundraise in order for me to take part in this project, I am going to do a sponsored walk up Ben Nevis near the end of April before I leave for Greece.

Your donations will provide a much needed volunteer for a worthwhile cause. This is a vocational experience that will ultimately contribute to the conservation of the loggerhead turtle, increasing hatchling survival rate by ensuring that nests are protected.

Thankyou :)
