Story

I'm raising £550 to buy both a landing net (for netting swans) and a remote controlled bownet for trapping mallards in need of rescue.

I am a volunteer waterfowl rescuer who is in central Hertfordshire. I work full time as a veterinary nurse but in my very little spare time I’m rescuing swans, ducks and geese in the local area. Ive taken over 120 calls since September last year, and helped nearly 100 birds. I’ve already spent over £1,000 in my own funds on equipment, food and fuel and I haven’t yet been doing this a year. I would therefore love to raise some funds for a couple of bits of expensive but incredibly useful and essential kit these are.

Landing net (£71.99) for netting swans out of the water during rescues off the water.

Bownet trap (£255.06) and remote control trigger (£218.62) both of these must be shipped from the USA. (I havent added the costs of shipping so far into my fundraising). This is essential for trapping mallards and small birds which I cannot always net by hand. Anyone who has tried to catch ducks knows they’re very difficult and this net trap will help me to catch those I can’t.

If I manage to raise enough funds for these bits I might add some extra to the total for fuel and bird food to recoup some of my costs I’ve already paid out. But right now I would love to get these things for rescue. All my time, fuel and bird care is self funded so far.
