Story
Hello Everyone 👋🏻, I have planned to do a sponsored walk, to raise money for Monitors for Kids. My and 4 other girls are training to complete 35 miles to, raise money and awareness for Monitors 4 Kids. This is a charity on the Isle of Man that raises money and provides children that have Type 1 Diabetes a CGM (Continuous Glucose Monitor) This helps children monitor there blood sugars and gives them tight control, and puts parents mind at rest.
For example, I wear the Dexcom G6, I have the app on my phone that constantly tells me what my blood sugar is and it gives me arrows to indicate my on what way my blood sugar is going (up, down etc...) But that’s not just what the Dexcom does, the Dexcom app connects to my Mum (Trish Taylor) and my Dad (Paul Taylor) so they can put there minds at rest and not have to worry if my blood sugar is too high or too low.
I was lucky enough that my mum and dad were able to afford to pay for the sensors as the sensors unfortunately aren’t on the NHS. But the Monitors for Kids charity was set up on the Isle of Man to provide all 49 children with a CGM of their choice. Either the Freestyle Libra, Dexcom G5 or Dexcom G6.
The cost of a Freestyle Libra is £49.00 and this lasts for 14 days. The reader Costs around £40.The Dexcom G5 and G6 are of a similar cost. The sensor (the sticky plaster that goes on your skin) costs around £50 this lasts 10 days. Then a transmitter is needed this costs around £150 and last 3 months. If a child needs and reader because they don’t own a smart phone. The readers are around £200-£300. For a year of sensors it costs around £2000. I am hoping to create more awareness for children with diabetes and help children get the medical equipment they need and deserve.
With the charity Monitors for Kids, parents don’t have to pay this huge amount of money for their kids to have tight control on their diabetes, Monitors for kids provide the sensors for the family.I wanted to support a charity that actually meant something to me. Monitors for Kids has done a lot for me and a lot for my family.I am hoping as you are all my family and friends. That you would kindly share this post and possibly sponsor me in my walk. I really appreciate all the help. Thank you all so much for supporting me through my ride with diabetes. It’s been a tough 5 years and I wouldn’t of been able to get back on track without the Dexcom.
Unfortunately ,Manx Diabetic group website /Monitors 4 kids and the don't have a page on JustGiving so this is the only way that I am able to collect the donations. Thank you all so much for taking the time out to read my post. I would really appreciate all your support! ❤️
