Story

Hello! My name is Abigail. I’m completing the Yorkshire 3 Peaks Challenge in June. It involves climbing Pen-y-ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough in just 12 hours (24miles and 1585m of ascent). I’m doing this to raise money for a World Challenge Volunteering Expedition to Cambodia and Vietnam, where I will be helping local communities build family houses and to help the United World School Project (UWS) which builds schools in rural areas of Cambodia.

Part of World Challenge Expedition preparation is learning about sustainable travel and the impact of tourism on cities and communities. One of the communities I will visit is the Kavet indigenous tribe. This led me to find out about the work of the United World Schools Projects which provides education and schools to rural, ethnic-minority communities in hard to reach rural areas. I will be donating 50% of all monies raised to United World Schools (UWS). I believe that this will be a valuable experience in my future, and that through promoting responsible tourism and volunteering we can have a positive and sustainable impact on the environment and local communities.
