    Story

On the 4th July 2018, 4 volunteers will set out from Inverkip for 1000 mile round trip to Rockall to raise funds for able2sail, a charity that gives people with disabilities the opportunity to go sailing. We’re going in company with 2 other boats, all Rivals, and in the 50th anniversary of the first Rival being launched in 1968. Contender is a Rival 32, skippered by Geoff Crowley. A crew of 2 men and 2 women will sail almost non-stop in a route starting in the Clyde, round the Mull of Kintyre, a short stop at Barra to team up with other Rivals, then round Barra Head and West to Rockall. Rounding Rockall, we aim to sail north to the Butt of Lewis, a short stop in Stornoway and return to the Clyde. It might take about 10 days. We’re leaving at 6pm on 4th July from Inverkip and we’d love you to see us off! More importantly, can you make a donation to able2sail? Visit our website www.able2sail.org.uk. Thanks to the generous support of our funders and supporters we are able to offer all our sailing opportunities free of charge: able2sail remains 100% volunteer managed and operated. We are always looking for new volunteers.

Rockall is an uninhabited granite islet within the exclusive economic zone of the United Kingdom, situated in the North Atlantic Ocean. Its rough distances from the closest large islands are: 430 km north-west of Ireland, 460 km west of Great Britain and 700 km south of Iceland. The nearest permanently inhabited place is North Uist, an island in the Outer Hebrides of Scotland, 370 km to the east.

You can follow our progress on yellow brick tracker, access that from the yellowbrick website or through the able2sail website. Please spread the word on social media, if everyone who knows us donates £2.50 we will reach our £10,000 target.
