Story

Many of you will know our family‘s story and the ups and downs that we have been through but you may never have seen the reality of what we were faced with or really understood how long and bumpy our journey has been. We have always strived to be positive and deal with things privately, but now, we find ourselves in need of help.

We have kept this cover photo close to our chest for many years but it acts as a stark reminder of how incredible Harrison is. Before he was born, at our 20 week scan we were told that should we decide to go ahead with our pregnancy we would have a son who would never walk and would be serverely mentally disabled. We were offered a termination there and then. I remember the tears rolling down our faces as we tried to comprehend what we were being told. He was our baby. We loved him already. Of course we went ahead. And thank God we did!

Harrison is amazing! He is clever, funny, gregarious and has lightened up our lives everyday (as has his brother!) Yes, Harrison has had physical difficulties since birth and been in and out of hospital, but it has never stopped him. He once described himself as being like water- always getting to where he wants to go, but taking his own route to get there. However, this past year, Harrison’s condition has worsened significantly and he is using his wheelchair on a full time basis when away from the house. He hasn’t let this change get him down though! In fact he has used it as a way to perfect his wheelying skills!

Harrison has always wanted to be part of a sports team - just like most other 11 year old boys. And now that he has started secondary school I have discovered many accessible sporting teams in the area. However, he needs a sports wheelchair that fits him and can be adapted as he grows. They are a fortune to buy and that is why we find ourselves asking for help. If we are successful, it would open up a whole new world to Harrison- basketball, athletics, rugby, badminton, new friends and the ability to belong to a team. He could even use it for his school PE lessons.

If you are in a position to help us, please do.

Thank you.
