Story

This September I will be travelling to Chios, a Greek Island 7km off the coast of Turkey to join an incredible organisation called Action for Education. They are the longest running and through their high school and youth centre. They aim to provide a critical safe space for youth ages 12-22 in which they can escape the inhumane conditions of the refugee camp while simultaneously developing social, motor, and English skills necessary for empowering them to build their own future.

The organisation is run solely based on donations and I have been saving so I can volunteer with them. Your donations will go directly to Action for Education for emergencies or more/better resources and opportunities for young refugees living in limbo.

It is so important that this work continues as the situation is not getting any better. More boats have been arriving and there are over 2,000 refugees in Chios right now living in a camp called Vial where the capacity is half and the conditions are not humane. We are not hearing about this on the news and it’s difficult to stay connected to issues that are not in the headlines as we all lead busy lives. Not everyone can spare time to stay engaged with what’s going on, let alone do anything about it. But luckily there are lots of organisations like Action for Education and others, for example Help Refugees, who are helping refugees in lots of different ways. All of them though aiming to treat refugees with the respect and dignity that they deserve as fellow humans on this Earth. In the words of Nick Knowles “we can’t help everyone but everyone can help someone” so please help me help them by donating what you can!
