The Stats -

Based on a recent study the survival rate for patients suffering a Cardiac Arrest was 90% for those who received their first Defibrillation within 1 minute after collapse., and 74% for those who received their first defibrillation within the first 3 minutes after collapse. For those who received their first defibrillation after the first 3 minutes, the survival rate was 49%. This shows how important fast action and access to a Defibrillator is and the difference it can make.

What We Are Doing -

Whilst we carry this equipment on our appliance the Firefighters from Ottery St Mary Fire Station are fundraising for a public access Defibrillator to be installed at Ottery St Mary Fire Station.

It will be installed on the outside of the building which will allow for 24 Hour access to life saving equipment for the community and due to the close proximity to the town centre will allow for maximum coverage of the town.

To raise funds the crew will be taking part in a 10KM sponsored walk in which they will be wearing Full Firefighting Kit as well as donning their B.A sets - approximately 40KG in total. They will walk a route around Ottery and the local area on Sunday 4th September from 10am starting at Ottery Fire Station and will look to finish in the same place at around 12.30 - 1pm.

We aim to raise £1,000 to cover the costs of purchasing and installing the Defibrillator. All additional funds raised will be split evenly and donated to The British Heart Foundation and The Fire Fighters Charity.

Any and all donations to this will be greatly appreciated and will help us create a safer community for our residents and visitors to the town.
