Story
TrustFord Gillingham are going to be hosting a charity football match to raise money for Vicky Thornton and family and Myeloma UK Charity. Colleagues at TrustFord Gillingham have known Vicky a long time, she is appreciated by many and loved by all and we feel this is the least we can do to show our support to her and her family.
Their story:
In February 2018, Vicky Thornton’s husband Adam stood up and his vertebrae collapsed and his spine fractured. At just 37 years of age, this was very unusual and after many investigations Adam was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma, which is currently a treatable but sadly incurable form of bone cancer.
We have decided to put on a charity football match on the 5th August at 2pm, K Sports, Ditton ME20 6AU to raise funds for Adam, Vicky and their 6 year old son Joshua. Adam and Vicky have asked that half of the money raised to go to Myeloma UK, a charity that deal exclusively with myeloma, with the ultimate goal of finding a cure.
Adam had been suffering with pain in his ribs and chest for 18 months prior to diagnosis, continuously visiting his GP, having Xrays/Scans, but no one had a clue what it might be. We would like to help raise much needed funds to support the essential research required to find a cure and also raise more awareness of this rare type of cancer to give better opportunity for earlier diagnosis. Adam is not only having to fight the cancer, but is also having to deal with the unnecessary pain of having a fractured spine, which requires him to wear an uncomfortable brace. We are hopeful that with more awareness, knowledge and research of this type of cancer, people can be diagnosed earlier without having to suffer the immense pain of fractured bones at the same time as dealing with a cancer diagnosis and treatment.
Hope to see you all on the day!!
