Adam is 18, lives in the Lake District, has cerebral palsy and uses a powered wheelchair and a communication aid (he has no speech). He is currently in 6th Form studying physics and aims to go to University in September 2017 to do a BSc in Mathematics. This is an amazing achievement but he takes it all in his stride and is thoroughly looking forward to leaving home!
His current power chair is almost 9 and needs to be put out to grass; so Adam needs a new one which will not only get him around school and Uni, but also have the capability to get him out and about in the countryside that he loves. It needs it to have suitably supportive seating and the ability to have his communication aid mounted on it. We have found the Magic Mobility Frontier V6 and it fits the bill perfectly (with additional seating) and so have been raising the £13,000 needed...nearly there. In addition, for Uni, Adam will need other bits of specialist equipment and computer software so that he can make the best of his time as a student, both academically and socially! There is some statutory support available for disabled students, but this will only cover the basics and Adam may need more than one of various bits of kit for example a special keyboard for working in his accommodation and another for lecture or tutorial work.
