I've raised £650 to buy a specialist sports wheelchair for students at Wood Green School.

My name is Adam and I am 13 years old. In December 2017 I was diagnosed with Ewing's Sarcoma, a rare and aggressive type of bone cancer which mainly affects children.
I had been having a pain in my leg for a few weeks which I thought was just caused by a football injury. I was shocked to find out that the pain was caused by a tumour which was growing in my femur and that the cancer had already started to spread to my lungs.
A few days after completing my first cycle of chemotherapy in January 2018, my femur had been weakened so much by the cancer that my leg broke suddenly as I was getting dressed. I was rushed to hospital in an ambulance, but the doctors wanted me to finish my cancer treatment before fixing my leg so I spent the next few weeks in hospital with my leg in traction having more chemotherapy and unable to move. When I was allowed to go home, I needed to use crutches and a wheelchair to get around.
Although the chemotherapy made me feel sick and the side effects were horrible, I really missed playing sports and being active. Before my diagnosis, I played football and hockey for local teams and it was a big part of my life. Not only did it keep me fit, but it's where I would meet up with my friends and where I enjoyed being a part of a team.
I eventually had surgery in August 2018 after completing many months of treatment. The surgeons replaced my hip and most of my femur with a metal prosthesis which meant that I could at last start the slow process of being able to walk again.
In September I was given the amazing news that the cancer had been treated successfully and I now needed to rebuild my strength so that I could get back to doing normal things again. It's been four months since my surgery and I still suffer from pain most days, but I am now able to walk short distances with my crutches. I'm determined to be able to leave my wheelchair at home when I go back to school in January, so I have set myself the challenge of walking to school and back again by Christmas - a distance of about a kilometre. This is a huge challenge for me as It will be the furthest distance I have walked in almost a year.
I would really appreciate your support with this challenge as I'm also aiming to raise £650 to buy a specialist sports wheelchair for Wood Green School. The wheelchair will be available for use by any students at Wood Green School who may need to use it, maybe due to illness or injury. It will also enable me to continue to play sports and join in with PE lessons with my friends whilst I face my next challenge for 2019 - walking and running without crutches.
Thank you so much for your support.
