Story
Myself and my friend Richard will be running the Robin Hood half-marathon in September in support of 1st Sawley Scout Group's project to create a brand new Community Hub. We would be grateful for any contribution you can make, no matter how small.
1st Sawley Scout Group do wonderful work in the local community and are run by a passionate group of local volunteers. Having been in the Scouts myself I know first hand how valuable they are in supporting young people in their personal development, empowering them to make a positive contribution to society and giving them access to opportunities and activities that might otherwise not be accessible. Sawley contains neighbourhoods experiencing some of the highest levels of deprivation in Erewash, and groups like this make a huge difference to the lives of young people in these areas.
The group are in desperate need of a new venue as the current Scout hut is dilapidated, leaking and generally not fit for purpose. The overall vision is to replace this with a brand new Community Hub on the same plot, designed by the community, for the community. This project will secure the land for many generations to come and create a fresh, modern and high quality space which individuals, groups and local businesses will be able to use 7 days a week.
They've completed Phase 1 (Build the foundations), the project is now at Phase 2: Raise £42k to purchase the land. Phase 3 will be fundraising for the build itself, and while that stage can be supported through a range of grants and funds from businesses, charities and government, the group cannot access that funding without owning the land. Grant funding for land purchases is very thin on the ground, which is why Phase 2 is so critical to the future of the project, and the stage where your generosity will make the biggest impact.
Thank you for taking the time to read, and thank you for your generosity.
