Weʼve raised £1,655 to Help fund a public AED automatic external defibrillator located at the old General Hospital in Bristol, BS1 6SD to help save lives.

Funded on Thursday, 5th March 2020

    Story

We are the residents of The General Hospital and would like to collect funds to install a public automatic external defribrillator in its own box somewhere on the old hospital site. At this location there will be over 200 apartments and it is a very popular drinking and eating location with The Ostrich, The Golden Guinea and The Louisianna pubs and Casamia and Paco Tapas restaurants. Further away are M-Shed and the Cargo stores and restaurants. The nearest public AEDs are on Princess Street and St Thomas Street (0.4 miles and 0.5 miles away). The purchase of this AED would provide a very strategically placed public asset and potentially save lives. Cardiac Arrests affect all people of all ages and AED devices help restart peoples hearts in these situations. They are easy to use and only provide electric shocks when they determine that it is necessary. Please help us to provide this extremely helpful resource for our local community. Any funding left over from the procurement, installation and five years of maintenance (or if we fall short of the target) will be donated to the British Heart Foundation.

We have done it! We now have a fully operational Defibrillator! It’s located down a set of steps in the courtyard of The General at grid reference (51.4472828, -2.5934936 ). If you know how to use “three words” to locate the defibrillator it’s ///uses.rock.organ Many thanks to everyone who donated to this very worthy cause. We are arranging training of local residents over the next few months. This was the only location that was agreeable with City and Country. Kind regards Martyn Green

We have done it!! ** DEFIBRILLATOR HAS ARRIVED** Thanks to all of you that contributed to the defibrillator it is now on site, charged up with Pads and resuscitation kit and located temporarily in The Concierges Office at The General available to all! We are still awaiting the cabinet to be delivered and mounted on the wall at the bottom of the steps to the underground Arcade. City & Country have agreed to fit it for us but not in a more obvious location. would not allow us to fix it in a highly obvious location. Training is to be organised

Great news - I have been approached by a charity called London Hearts who offer defibrillator equipment at a much chea prices. You can see their website https://www.londonhearts.org/apply-online I have ordered the equipment and they will be delivering it on Friday 24 Jan 2020. They then provide training on a day and venue to suit us. They are also helping with the registration of the kit with the ambulance service and will map it on the Good Sam App on our behalf. Thanks to all “Friends of The General”
