Afghanistan has dominated headlines for the last 40 years. The menace of war and regional power plays have given its inhabitants no respite.

Beyond politics and regional geopolitics, little is discussed of the grinding poverty widespread across the country. 18 years and billions of dollars of aid later, a large and growing proportion of its population live under the poverty line. It is almost impossible to find cities and town centres without young and bleak men desperate for a chance at gaining employment and a means of sustenance: desperation that rarely yields fruit. Such men are often driven to the depths of their desperation to undertake perilous journeys to neighbouring countries to better their and their families lives, bearing mistreatment or discrimination and maybe even death, should they proceed to attempt to travel further to the West.

For this reason, we are dedicated to maximising the benefit of the blessed month of Ramadan for such people and their families. Not in want of food and shelter, it is truly a praiseworthy cause to purify our wealth to aid our fellow men and women, so that they may, for at least some time, join in the breaking of the fast with food on the table, and not sleep on a hungry stomach.
