Story

I‘m running the London Marathon on 3 October to raise money to support women peacebuilders at risk in Afghanistan. These women do so much to resolve conflict and build peace, particularly at the local comminity level. And yet they had to fight to try and secure full, equal and meaningful inclusion in the formal peace process despite the evidence that shows peace is more sustainable when women are at the peace negotiating table. Since the Taliban returned to power in August, these women’s lives and those of their families are at risk.

Your donations will contribute to the International Civil Society Action Network (ICAN)’s Afghanistan Emergency Relief Fund. ICAN is funding the provision of emergency supplies, safety and protection measures, and evacuation assistance to its Afghan partners and their families. ICAN promotes inclusive and sustainable peace in countries affected by violent conflict, extremism, militarism, and closing political space. It recognises the gendered impact of conflict and the critical role of women peacebuilders. You can find out more about ICAN at https://icanpeacework.org
