We (Arita and Constantina) will be serving on Mercy Ships as scrub nurses for two weeks next year in March 2017. This is purely voluntary work so we must raise enough money to help pay for flights, accommodation and other expenses by the end of December.

About us
Arita: I am a New Zealand trained nurse originally from South Korea. I have been working at the BMI Alexandra Hospital for almost 2 years.
Constantina: I am a British, Cypriot nurse who trained in Cyprus. I have been working at the BMI Alexandra hospital for over 2 years.

We specialise in general, colorectal and laparoscopic surgery. We also scrub in other specialities such as gynaecology, bariatrics, urology and plastics. We decided to apply for Africa Mercy because we wanted to use our skills as scrub nurses internationally. We wanted to get involved in something spectacular and worthwhile such as the Africa Mercy. Africa Mercy is unlike any other organisation being the largest charitable floating hospital. People who have little or no healthcare in some of the poorest parts of the world can benefit from getting treatment on board.

There are five operating theatres on board performing procedures such as tumour removals, cleft lip, fistula repairs and reconstructions. As scrub nurses we will be assisting in life saving surgery by preparing instruments and equipment needed for surgery. It will be our responsibility to ensure a safe, clean and controlled environment to optimise the patients peri-operative experience.

This extraordinary opportunity will allow us to use our skills to help those in need and leave something behind once we return home.
