Story
In effort to raise money for two local charities; Derby Street Safe, and Derby Hospital Charity, a group of 10 members from the agA (apprentice and graduate Association) are taking on the famous Three Peak Challenge. The challenge involves scaling the 3 largest peaks in England, Scotland and Wales (Scafell Pike, Ben Nevis and Snowdon respectively) in just 24 hours including travelling time. This is no small feat and the team have been training for months to enable the challenge to be a success, we hope to meet and even exceed the target of £500. This money will make a real difference to the local charities alongside the money already raised by the agA this year and so any donation big or small will help us to reach our target and ultimately have a positive impact on the local community.
The Charities:
Streetsafe - The Street Safe Derby group was set up originally by 2 people that wanted to go out onto the streets of Derby and make a difference to homeless people. They have now joined a partnership with P.A.C.E. and operate as a social enterprise within P.A.C.E. The charity aim to make a local difference by handing out items such as warm clothing, socks, scarves, gloves, hats, sleeping bags or blankets, toiletries, packet food, cakes, biscuits, chocolate bars etc, the list could go on forever. For more information on this charity please visit their website: http://www.pacederby.co.uk/p-a-c-e-social-enterprise/street-safe-pace/
Derby Hospitals Charity - Derby Hospitals Charity exists to support all aspects of the work of Derby Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust at the Royal Derby Hospital and the London Road Community Hospital. They are there to “make patients’ lives better”. Donations and legacies to the charity help to provide the “extras” that can’t be provided from NHS statutory funding, but make a real difference to our patients and staff.
