In the summer of 2017 myself and 24 others from my school will be taking part in a 19 day trip to Namibia, south east Africa. This trip is all about gaining knowledge and experience abroad. There are 2 parts to the trip, firstly there is the 5 day expedition. This is through the Fish River Canyon. Secondly there is the community outreach project where we will live with the local community and help them with many labour and educational tasks.
The trip is run and organized by a company called world challenge however as the participants we have to organise our stay and money by ourselves, in order to gain experience in planning trips abroad. We also will go for trial hikes and runs to maintain out fitness levels for the trip.
The expedition will be over 5 days we will carry our daily kit as it would be very challenging to carry it all in the extreme heat conditions. This expedition will lead us to encounter many species of wildlife in Africa as the canyon is in a remote and very vast area.
The outreach project is all about getting an insight into the daily life of the African people in Namibia. This includes no electrics apart from the mains (if that), no phones, no wifi. However it gives me the opportunity to help to fix some of their issues but also to help educate the children and meet and experience people of a completely different lifestyle to mine.
