Story

Many of you reading this post will know the wonder that is Katie Paterson personally or through the stories her parents, Elaine and Graham, fondly share about her. Katie is a caring, loving, selfless and energetic 8 year old who never fails to brighten everyone’s day.

In December 2020, the family were given the devastating diagnosis that Katie has a medulloblastoma brain tumour. The surgeons and medical team at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital removed as much of the tumour as possible and supported Katie and the family in her recuperation from such major surgery. Like the little warrior she is, Katie showed strength and determination during this period, astounding those around her. This was the start of a long and demanding road for Katie which began with radiotherapy sessions in January at the Beatson Cancer Centre. The next part of Katie’s treatment, 36 weeks of chemotherapy sessions is now underway.

In April this year myself, a former pupil of Elaine’s at Langloan Primary, contacted the school offering to raise funds to help support the family by running 1 kilometre for every one of Katie’s 36 weeks of chemotherapy. Elaine and Graham were overwhelmed by this offer of support but requested that any funds raised should also benefit the Schiehallion Ward at the Royal Hospital for Children were Katie is being treated.

We understand that this is a financially challenging time for many just now. If you are able to make a donation to support the family and those who are providing her medical care it would be very much appreciated. Please continue to keep Katie, Elaine and Graham in your thoughts and prayers.

Therefore to show my support and to help raise some money for both Katie and her family and also the Schiehallion Ward at the Royal Hospital. I will be challenging myself to run this 36 kilometres, which is the furthest I have ever ran while Katie battles through her 36 weeks of chemotherapy. I am running this to not only raise funds but also too raise awareness for this cruel disease that not only effects Katie but so many others in the Uk.
