Story
Thank you for visiting my JustGiving page.
In loving memory of my mum, I have decided to run the ‘RunThrough Brixton - 10k’ for the Coventry group of Survivors of Bereavement by Suicide (SOBS). This charity have served as an amazing network of support during this difficult period. SOBS exist to meet the needs and break the isolation experienced by those bereaved by suicide. They are a self-help organisation providing a safe, confidential environment in which bereaved people can share their experiences and feelings whilst giving and receiving support from one another. SOBS ultimately strive to improve public awareness and break down the stigma surrounding the subject of suicide.
Last year, my mum took her life. The loss felt as a result of her suicide amongst my family and the many who knew her has been life changing. Without the love, support and help of various wonderful charities, friends and family, I would not be the person I am today. Not only do I want to raise money for this charity but I want to continue raising awareness, amplifying the necessary conversations and spaces working towards breaking the stigma around suicide, especially within POC (people of colour) communities.
I believe in order to destroy the taboo surrounding suicide, it’s symptoms and effects, we need to have these difficult and uncomfortable conversations. Depression can be a terminal illness that people do not understand and there is need for us to speak about it often and openly. Do not forget to ask how your friends, family and colleagues feel. Most importantly do not neglect yourself; seek professional help if needed.
Please donate and help to make a change. Any amount would be much appreciated.
I’d like to thank everyone in advance for their generosity!
