Children and youth

Story

Our aim is give vulnerable children and youths in our community in Lusaka, Zambia a 'home of chances' with care, fun and love. Not only that, we also give support for education. We do not have to search for children to help and we do not choose them, they/their parents come to us. This is the least we, lucky people can do for those less fortunate.

In May 2021, We signed a contract and the title deeds of the property where the 'grassfly foundation' is situated were handed of over to a trust for Calypso Cardozo Bowa. At this property we have created such a wonderful home and given hope to so many. Sure, the positive difference we have made is just a drop in the ocean but we have created and ocean of difference to many people, children in particular. There is one intelligent girl who had to stop school in order to care for her sick mother who could no longer afford to sponsor any of her children through school. Since we've met, we've managed to find sponsors for all four of her children and we have supplied her many a time with groceries for her specific diet requirements (she suffers from diebetes and high blood pressure). We have got her the medicine she needed and have often taken her to appointments and emergencies. Her daughter, Alice retook the year that she failed to complete due to her mothers illness and has passed her grades 7 exams with high marks. She now attends secondary school where she is working hard and is very happy. This is just and example of one of thefamilies lives we have changed and we can and will do so much more.

However, although we have paid more than half of our mortgage, the contract is not yet over. We would really appreciate any help to finish the property payment. More than half of our allowance every month goes towards property payments and we are managing by the skin of teeth but we could do so much more for others if this property payment was over.

It was amazing, in 2021, we managed to raise a big lump sum through a lot of very generous donors that paid for 50%of the mortgage but since then, the value of the Zambian Kwacha has increased in value which increases the price in other currencies. Our main source of income comes from the UK in british sterling which has decreased in value compared to the Zambian Kwacha, by almost 30%.
