Why Vandalise the Bowls Club? Whats the Point?
West Oxford Bowls Club has suffered a number of break-ins in the last 4 weeks. The first two break-ins resulted in superficial damage to a storage shed. Nothing was taken all equipment remained intact. The damaged shed was repaired and secured.
The perpetrators then tried to gain access to the Clubhouse without success. Next the vandals broke into the changing rooms causing considerable damage. The pictures show some of the damage caused. Finally the vandals then damaged the storage shed for a second time. Cheap alcohol and cigarettes were recovered from the scene.
The Club has a small membership mainly of people aged between 50 and 90 years. The buildings are prohibitively expensive to insure with a considerable excess on the insurance policy. Needless to say the excess exceeds the costs of damage meaning club members will need to make repairs themselves. Some small donations have already been received from the generous Bowls and Botley Communities. We have some way to go to cover the full cost of materials. If you can help us, donations would be very much appreciated. This would enable us to make good repairs before the new season.
