Story
On October 2025, I lost my Mum, to cancer.
Losing her was the hardest mile I’ve ever had to walk, but she taught me everything I know about strength. To honour her memory, and to stand with anyone else who has felt the weight of grief, on the 9th May I am taking on my personal 62-mile ultramarathon along the canal from Glasgow to Edinburgh, finishing at Fountainbridge. No crowds, no cheering, no t-shirts or medals because navigating grief isn't glamourous with prizes at the end.
Don't allow your mind to make you quit.
This isn't just a run; it’s a test of mental resilience. When things get dark and the distance feels impossible, I’m leaning into that 'stay strong' mentality to pull through—just like so many have to do every day when navigating loss.
Just like in real life, there are always people there to support you and I'll be accompanied by close friends and family who'll run their own 10 mile stretch with me. They'll keep me on pace, look out for me and tell me 'I can' when my mind and body are screaming at me that 'I can't. Each of these supporters have also had to navigate grief and loss in their own way and are running in memory of their loved ones.
I’m raising funds for Nicola Welsh, a local grief counsellor who provides vital mental health support to people rebuilding after the unthinkable. Donations will help sustain and expand her counselling work, including offering sessions to those who may not otherwise be able to access support. Every contribution helps ensure no one has to walk their darkest path alone. Thank you for helping me honour my Mum and support a service that turns pain into purpose.
Funds will be paid to Nicola Welsh Counselling to support the delivery of these services.”
