Based in Iten, Kenya, the Arete Scholarship Program aims to help young Kenyan athletes fulfill their athletic and personal potential via individualized, top-quality coaching, access to a robust running community, opportunities to race abroad, and improved living conditions.
I don’t know how many stablemates, whether Inner, Secret or Magic Circle or just hangers-on like me, have had the good fortune to meet Stazza. I joined the stable as I had seen some posts by John and wanted to see what it was all about, I am officially untrainable (that’s another story) so have never looked to join the Inner Circle, but see enough to be interested on the sidelines. Last year I travelled to Belfast where I had the good fortune to meet John.
I had already read all the information about the Arete Project, but was very pleased to have the opportunity to discuss and find out more. Suffice to say I am extremely impressed with John’s enthusiasm and determination to help the guys in Kenya and the effort he was putting in to get it up and running. Since then he has spent quite some time in Iten getting things really going and as a result of his effort things are looking extremely good for the squad.
