What is crowdfunding?

Crowdfunding is a new type of fundraising where you can raise funds for your own personal cause, even if you're not a registered nonprofit.

The page owner is responsible for the distribution of funds raised.

Story

We are supporting two specific causes in memory of our beloved Alana, who died on 25th July 2019.

Firstly, in Madagascar we want to directly help the villagers of Anjajavy and the surrounding area. This is an extremely poor region, and for the villagers to leave their farms and spend 10 days searching for Alana was extraordinarily generous. We are hoping to fund the construction of a much-needed extra classroom at the local school, which will mean that none of the children will need to have lessons outdoors as is currently the case.

Secondly, in the UK we are setting up a bursary at Alana's University home, Robinson College, Cambridge. This will be specifically for the benefit of female students, something that we know Alana would have thoroughly approved of.

Every small donation will make a difference; thank you. We will continue to post periodic updates below as things pan out.

We've decided to leave this page open for the foreseeable future. The Madagascar element of the fund remains intact, and we are raring to deploy it as soon as the pandemic allows. The Cambridge bursary is fully operational.

Once again we want to say how moved we are at the sheer scale of your generosity in Alana’s memory. She would be so proud of you all. The Alana Cutland Fund at Robinson College, Cambridge, has awarded two grants to female science undergraduates this year, and our project to help the schools in Anjajavy, Madagascar is ready to roll again as soon as the world emerges from the current pandemic. You are amazing people. Thank you, and stay well everyone. Neil & Ali.

Dear friends. It will come as no surprise to hear that the current pandemic means that our project to help the schools in Anjajavy has had to be temporarily paused. The family friend who has been managing this activity for us has made some significant contacts, through whom we should be able to move ahead as soon as the global situation allows. Our grant fund for Robinson College undergraduates remains operational. We send very best wishes to our fellow human beings in Cambridge, Madagascar and across the world. Neil & Ali
