Paige was a healthy normal 4 year old little girl when she became a little under the weather. On 18th September she developed a temperature and was off her food, no cause for alarm just thought she had a little bug. Monday 19th she was having headaches, again I thought it was a bug. However on Tuesday 20th she began falling down anytime she tried 2 stand, that's when I decided 2 take her 2 the doctor. She got referred to St. John's hospital and was kept in. They told me she had a urine infection although she never had tummy pain or pain when passing urine. Still she couldn't stand or walk. The Wednesday her left arm stopped working fully and she couldn't keep herself sitting up just kept falling over. The Thursday she came to Sick Kids hospital for an MRI scan, and was kept in. We got told on the Friday 22nd that Paige had got the Enterovirus d68 virus and AFM. This meant the virus had attacked her spinal cord and nervous system. My baby couldn't stand, walk, sit unaided or use her left arm. 5weeks in hospital and she still can't stand, walk, can sit unaided for short periods but gets tired easily, her upper left arm is still not working either. Doctors can't tell me if she will improve or if she does how much she'll make. It is all a waiting game as they do not have a clue what their dealing with.
