Weʼve raised £2,799 to Remembering Alan Pyle: "A Fundraiser for a permanent memorial dedicated to the memory of Alan, our much loved East Boldon Lollypop man"

Funded on Friday, 25th September 2020

    Story

Our aim is to enable a permanent memorial with an inscription, dedicated to Alan Pyle, in Grange Park; a seating/picnic area, where families and children can be encouraged to gather, interact and chat, as Alan would have loved this. Together with a plaque, near the crossing site.

With kind thanks to Nicola Linklater, who's original offline collection of donations, escalated so much, that this digital fundraiser was created and to Mark & Olive Pyle (Alan's family) as well as Friends of East Boldon Parks, for their consent & collaboration in what were fundraising for..

For nearly 2 decades Alan Pyle has made an active contribution to keeping children safe in East Boldon, come sun rain or hail. But he was much more than that to so many, a ray of sunshine, a friendly face, a kind sympathetic ear, a smart and dapper old school gent always available to those around him. Always active in the community, at events, neighbourhood watch, and around the village. He has been an active resident of East Boldon for 48 years where he dedicated his life professionally as a Social Worker, and in retirement as "the lollypop man", to the safety of young children and families.

RIP Alan, we hope this fundraiser will be a legacy to you, for future generations, that you so truly deserve. Thank you for your service. We will all miss you dearly.

With the generosity and support of you all, we've far exceeded the original aim of raising £1250-£1500 for Alan's memorial. The creation of a picnic area in the Park, which will be part of future community events, together with the plaque, are very realistic now! But we're hopeful, we can do more, and so have increased our target to £2500. Lets keep it going everyone, keep sharing and talking about Alan's memorial, with people you meet in the community. Lets give Alan the Legacy he deserves !

As a former East Boldon resident, I was never fortunate enough to meet Alan, but my parents always expressed what a lovely man he was. The memorial is a perfect way to honour his legacy & impact.
