I'm raising £1,500 towards
Fair Trade Stirling Virtual Journey to Malawi
22nd July 2025
Fair Trade Stirling is holding a sponsored bike ride in August to raise money for its partners in the Karonga District of Malawi.
The target is to raise £1500 which will be used to help meet the training needs of young people in Karonga’s fair trade rice growing communities which are FTS’s long term development partners.
Cllr. Alasdair Tollemache, Stirling Council’s Fair Trade representative on Fair Trade Stirling said, “We have been proud to help provide vocational skills in Karonga. This year we will be helping to meet the cost of training materials such as cloth, metals and wood as well as a new priority coming from our partners - helping with provision of basic skills for younger children.”
Alasdair and others in the group will be cycling to raise funds in August. All the miles cycled will be totted up to add to the total miles from Stirling to Karonga. Previous events have taken the group as far as Libya.
Jon Cape, FTS Co-ordinator said ‘The virtual journey to Malawi is a novel and low cost way of building our relationship with our Malawi partners. Rather than making a physical trip, it means that all our fundraising goes directly to support our Malawi partners.’
