Story
I'm raising £2,000 for the relief of people made homeless by Hurricane Melissa in Jamaica.
Hurricane Melissa, a catastrophic Category 5 storm, has caused unprecedented devastation in Jamaica, resulting in widespread destruction, fatalities, and significant infrastructure damage.
Hurricane Melissa made landfall on Jamaica on October 28, 2025, with maximum sustained winds of 185 mph, marking it as the strongest storm in the island's history. The impact has been devastating as people have lost everything and been made homeless. The pictures and videos show bare spots where once there was a house and people left sleeping outside with no roof or walls for shelter.
I was born in Jamaica and grew up on the island until emigrating with my British born husband to the UK. I lived through Hurricane Gilbert, a category 3 hurricane when it made landfall on Jamaica and that was devastating. I can only imagine the horror of living through a storm exponentially worse. Please donate what you can, no donation is too small.
The money will be donated to grass roots organisations working closely on the ground with those most affected. One such organisations BREDS Foundation in Treasure Beach https://bredsfoundation.org/.
