Four of us are running the Derby 10k to help raise funds towards helping build the new extension on the Boxing Club.

This amateur boxing club has gone under the radar for a long time and possibly doesn't get the credit it deserves.

The club has been going for over 20 years and not only changed my life, but changed the lives of many others as well. For the community it provides a service to help keep children off the streets, as well as teaching them discipline and respect.

For some, the club has turned lives around who were involved in drink and drugs and help replace that with fitness and the buzz of training to learn new skills, eventually stepping through the ropes and putting everything together that they've learned in the gym.

For the younger generation that step through the gym doors, it has seen kids improve on their school grades, have a higher attention span and improve massively in confidence.

For a small club, it has produced some outstanding results over the years. From kids who have never stepped into a boxing ring and turn them into champions. Their has been a large number of club members who have represented Derbyshire and the East Midlands. Produced Champions at all levels from Derbyshire, Midlands, Golden Gloves and even a National Champion. Plus having a club member represent England in the national squad.

Over the years the club has had a bit of wear and tear and in desperate need of a revamp.

We also have a high number on a waiting list to join the club, which for health and safety reasons we've had to turn away. With the new extension and re-vamp of the old club, not only will it allow more club members, it will improve the facilities we have so we can increase our already high standard of training.
