Story
In July 2019, I will be travelling to Madagascar with my school to teach children in Andranasoa. Andranasoa is a remote, mountainous village where the majority of people live in poverty and have access only to the basics. People are subject to poor quality housing, health services, food and limited job opportunities.
I have been given the opportunity to help children in the Andranasoa Secondary School by teaching them subjects I am passionate about, hosting workshops and building classrooms to allow more children to get the education they deserve. I hope to show them the extent of their potential, give them opportunities and facilities they would not have otherwise had, and inspire them in areas they may have not explored before. It is a fantastic way to participate in the local community and support bright young children in need. As well as areas of science and geography, I am very excited to be teaching the students English. Their first language is French, so as a native English speaker, I can teach them nuance, specificity in the language and apply my own recent experience of being taught languages to explain things in a way that young people would understand. While the academic subjects are important, I also hope to build a bond with the students, so they feel comfortable around me and trust me. We can share our different cultural experiences and ways of life, which would be enriching for them and also for me.
In helping the students in this way, I hope to contribute to their education and empower them, increasing their chances of going to university and creating better lives for themselves. The money will also go towards developing the area and raising the living standards in Andranasoa. Thank you for supporting the cause and any donations would be very much appreciated.
