I have the opportunity to go on a 4 week volunteer trip to Ecuador in the Summer 2018. the Ecuador expedition will offer me the unique chance to live and work as part of the community in three distinct regions of Ecuador: the highlands, the Amazonian rainforest and the coast. I'll help local adults and children improve their quality of life in a sustainable way and support various environmental projects to safeguard the future of some pretty impressive wildlife including sea turtles.
The type of activities I will take part in include a School Kitchen Improvement (Kuri Kucho) where I will mix cement, learn plastering, painting and decorating buildings, learn about bio-construction and making my own building materials. I will take part helping in the reforestation of the Amazon rain forest with seed collection & harvesting, tree planting, general maintenance and construction where required. I will also get to assist in Turtle conservation with beach patrols and clean up and support the local village.
As you can see from the few examples I have given this will be a life changing trip for me, giving me the opportunity to help those far less fortunate than me and learning so many new skills. The trip is organised by Camps International and I will stay in 4 different camps helping the community.
As you can imagine the cost of such a volunteering trip is quite high as it covers the cost of flights, food, insurance and everything required.
I managed to raise the initial deposit but now need to raise another £796 for the second instalment of the £4120 - I am trying other ideas too such as a cake sale, selling old clothes and I'm planning to do something sponsored - every little bit helps and I so want to go on this trip not just to learn new skills but to help those less fortunate than myself.
