Story
Dexter was attacked by an American bulldog on the 24/5/19.The Bulldog managed to slip his lead and savagely attack our fur baby Dexter.
My husband was out walking our son and Dexter. The Bulldog raced towards Dexter, knocked over my son's pram, causing him to hit his head. Alex said it all happened too fast. He had hold of the bulldog, trying to get him off Dexter. He said he could feel Dexters skin ripping & our son was crying & shouting "Dada!" But he couldn't get to him. When the dog let go, Dexters intestines were hanging out!
We rushed him to the vets where they pushed his intestines back in and stapled the wound. They gave him pain relief & antibiotics & told us to go to their main surgery in Blackburn where we begged the vet to save him.
The vet bills are currently at 2k & are still rising as Dexter needs more treatment.
The police can not do anything because the dog isn't a dangerous breed &the dog hasn't attacked b4 so it did not legally have to have a muzzle at that time.
The council say they may be able to prosecute but any proceeds would go to them.
We also learnt that Myersclough vets only deal with one particular insurance company (pet plan) & we would have to pay all costs up front and claim it back on the insurance.
We have had to borrow money from people to get Dexter the emergency care that he needed. We have had Dexter since he was a pup & he is a support dog.
The insurance have said that they will only pay out a max cost of 1k on my "super cover plan", from that £100 excess cost would be deducted, so £900, meaning we are liable for the rest.
We have approached the dog walker only to get verbal abuse. They have refused to pay any of the vet costs. They haven't even apologised.
Dexter has had 2 surgeries & is needs more surgery.
We are really struggling to pay the vet bills and giving up on Dexter is just not an option. He is very much part of our family so we are asking for any donations, big or small to help pay for the care he needs.
