Story
Edith is a beautiful, lively and profoundly disabled 10 year old girl. Her needs are considerable and affect her both physically and cognitively and we need to raise a huge amout of money to support Kirsty and Dilly to buy her a new walker. So, the 6 of us are going to do a 10 peak challenge in the Lake District which means 14 hours of continuous walking, covering 24 km’s and 5469 feet of going uphill! Please donate what you can, if you can. You can read more about Edith below and also in the link. Thank you- Al, Em, Sam, Soph, Mark and Rosey xx
‘Edith’s condition is thought to be genetic but the mutation that caused her disability remains unknown. Edith is solely reliant on an adult to meet all of her needs. She has low muscle tone, is a wheelchair user and is currently mastering an eye gaze system to communicate with those around her. She has an unsafe swallow which means she is unable to eat orally and is fed via a gastric button directly into her stomach. Edith has been in and out of hospital all of her life and at times I have had to face fears no parent should have too. Despite all of this Edith is a happy, content little girl and brings so much joy to those that know her. She may not have spoken words, but she still manages to be cheeky and make everyone laugh on a daily basis. I am in awe of my girl who consistently defies the odds stacked against her and really makes the most of the life she has been given.’
