St Matthew's has been working exceptionally hard to support the well being of the local community in South West Burnley.

Fr Alex has featured in numerous news item discussing the Cost of Living Crisis, including features for BBC News, Rueters News, Good Morning Britain, BBC Radio 2 BBC Radio 4, Premier Christina Radio and many others. He has written for The Big Issue, The Belfast Telegraph, Christianity Magazine and July 2023 saw the publication of his first book, 'Our Daily Bread, Argos To The Altar, A Priest's Story' published by HarperNorth.

To celebrate this release Fr Alex is to take part in a charity walk from the first Argos Store he managed in Accrington to the St Matthew's church in Burnley. Every penny raised from the charity walk will go to enable the essential work of St Matthew's church to continue. The church does an enormous amount of work locally including.

1. Fun Church - Providing education, music, food and friendship to around 100 people each week.

2. Saturday Morning Breakfast club & Wednesday Lunch Club - Providing free meals on a weekly basis.

3. Toddler Group - Providing friendship and learning for local pre school children on a weekly basis.

4. Wednesday faith and friendship groups, offering fellowship, learning and social support in the local community.

5. Working with localised mental health charities to support the needs of individuals in crisis within our parish.

6. Holiday activities, including taking a large group of children and parents/guardians on a weekends activity to Whalley Abbey.

7. Proudly supporting an inclusive and welcoming environment where everybody is encouraged, regardless of background, gender, colour, theology.
